This tour takes place in KZN where we combine a visit to Sodwana Bay with an optional add-on to Protea Banks. Protea Banks is renowned for its unbelievable shark dives.

THIS EXPERIENCE:

  • Is a great follow-up to the Shark Life Conservation course and gives you the opportunity to see and experience the grace and beauty of these misunderstood animals firsthand. Sharks are a vital part of the ecosystem and they need to be protected.

Where are Sodwana Bay and Protea Banks?

Sodwana Bay

Is located on the east coast of South Africa, in one of the most unique and unspoiled parts of the world. Situated in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park and the Maputaland Marine Reserve.

Protea Banks

Protea Banks is situated 7.5km out to sea from Shelly Beach on the East Coast of South Africa. The reef lies at a depth of between 27 and 40 meters. It is about 6km long and 800m wide. Essentially a fossilized sandbank that comes up from 60m.

Itenary:

DETAILS

Sodwana Bay

Arrive at King Shaka International Airport on Saturday morning where you will be met and transferred to Sodwana Bay Lodge on the first day of your trip. We have a full briefing in the evening.

Six dive days with the option of a rest day. On the rest day, an excursion to Hluhluwe National Park can be arranged.

The afternoons can be spent resting in your hotel room or having drinks at the lodge pool. There are dive shops, coffee shops, and stalls to visit in the town too.

Shelly Beach

The Dive Villa is fully equipped for self-catering it also has a pool. Shelly Beach and its surrounds have numerous restaurants, beaches, shops, and places to visit.

  • The tour package has been quoted on a sharing basis and an additional single supplement fee will be charged for singles.

 ITINERARY

5 to 11 November

07:00 – Breakfast
08:00 – Meet at the beach in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park to kit up and get ready.
08:30 – Launch boats for the first dive.
10:00 – Back at the beach with surface interval. During this time you can relax and rest, get drinks and food at the beach Shop & Takeaway, or even go for a snorkel in the shallows.
12:00 – Launch boats for the second dive.
14:00 – Return to the lodge and spend the rest of the day at leisure.
19:00 – Dinner in the Sodwana Bay restaurant.

12 November

07:00 – Breakfast
10:00 – Leave for the airport or go to Shelly Beach
In the afternoon we arrive at the Dive Villa in Shelly Beach, settle in and then go to the dive center for paperwork and to sort out gear. We spend the rest of the day at leisure.

13 to 14 November

08:00 – Meet at the launch site to kit up and get ready.
08:30 – Launch boat for the first dive.
10:00 – Back at the beach with surface interval. During this time you can relax and rest, or get drinks and food at the Ski Boat Club restaurant in the harbour.
12:00 – Launch boat for the second dive.
14:00 – Return to the Dive Villa and spend the rest of the day at leisure.
