False Bay Sea Safaris
Join us for an exciting day at sea as we explore False Bay on a sea safari. Tours may be accompanied by a marine biologist, who will provide valuable insight into the biodiversity and history of False Bay.
False Bay boasts the marine Big 5 of South Africa which consists of the Great White Shark, Southern Right Whales, Common Dolphins, Cape Fur Seals and African Penguins. Common dolphins are often seen in the bay, sometimes in immense numbers. This is always a wonderful experience.
Whales
The whales that can be seen in False Bay includes the Bryde's Whale, the Humpback Whale, the Killer Whale (more commonly known as the Orca) and the Southern Right Whale. Whale season is between June and November. It is most prolific close to the shore from about September, and it is occasionally seen out of season, as early as May or as late as January.
Seal Island
Seal Island is home to the largest colony of Cape fur seals in the Western Cape, which can reach up to 75 000 seals. The seals, in turn, attracts Great White Sharks, however, their numbers have been on the decline and sightings are becoming very rare. A small population of African penguins are also found on the island, along with White-Breasted Cormorants, Black Cormorants, Cape Cormorants, Cape Wagtails and in summer a few Turnstones may be sighted.
