Our program includes all the scuba dive courses taking you from novice to a PADI Pro. You will learn practical work skills like gear maintenance, compressor operator, retail, customer service, professionalism, computer skills, and marketing & sales. All of this is integrated with our special Life Skills Courses which promote personal development and include: communication, conflict, a growth mindset, time management, self-awareness, and more.
Meet Erin
Erin is one of our new students for this year. We met her in 2022 when she enrolled for her Open Water Certification with us whilst attending a gap year in Cape Town. She is very passionate about the ocean and has a keen interest in studying marine biology in the future. Her enthusiasm for ocean conservation is inspiring. We asked her why she chose to join our Career Development program; this is what she had to say:
Passion
Ever since I was little I had this indescribable love for the sea and all the life living in it. My love and interest grow day by day, the more I learn, the more I fall in love. I’ve got a big love for conservation and a soft spot for all marine creatures. The more I see, learn, and dive, the more I dig deeper into this underwater world, and the more I see the things that are going wrong. I feel heartbroken because of the exhaustive list of threats we as humans pose. I want future generations to experience the ocean’s transcendent peace and beauty. To do that, we need to “protect what we love”. I noticed that this is a huge part of this Career Development Program and a very important issue for the Just Africa Scuba team.
Career
I have a dream and a goal to become involved in marine conservation as much as I possibly can, and my first step would be to study Marine Biology and achieve the necessary scuba dive certification level that will enable me to study the underwater world. Again, the Career Development Program provides this and much more. The skills and principles taught here are unlike anywhere else. With this program, so many opportunities and experiences are given to students. At the end of the day, this will equip me to stand a better chance at potential jobs and succeeding in life.
Self-improvement
The life skills courses are something that caught my eye when applying for this year. In the past year, I realized and experienced the importance of personal development in the emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual aspects of life. The growth I’ve undergone, in one year, is so immense I sometimes struggle to wrap my head around it. With continuous work and effort in all the above-mentioned aspects, you start to grow and change. The biggest winning aspect, however, of this Career Development Program, is the foundation on which Just Africa Scuba is founded and that’s Christ. I believe that the principles and morals that are instilled within Just Africa Scuba correlate with my own. Everything flows better with Jesus involved.
Conclusion
All in all, the main points mentioned, like my passion for the sea, heart for conservation, the centre’s foundation, and personal development aspects; gel so well with the ‘smaller’ parts of Just Scuba namely: family, support, and every experience in between.
