Growing up, I always felt that the ocean was a big mystery that I could only start to explore on holidays or through the adventures of others on social media. When I moved to the Cape, the close proximity to the sea compelled me to start my own adventure, to get my own firsthand experience of everything I can find in this infinite underwater world.
Through the first few months in the program, I've been privileged enough to see sights most people haven't even begun to imagine. To dive, literally, head-first into a world that feels so dreamlike. I still can't believe is actually real.
I've only begun my journey with Just Africa Scuba, and I've made so many memories; I can't wait to see what happens as I continue my year here.
After finishing matric, I felt very lost on what to do next. I wasn't ready to start university yet, but in today's time, the options on after school activities are scarily limited. The life skills program offered me many chances to travel, explore, meet new people and develop myself, as well as my skills.
This team has driven me to be more than what I am, and learn more about what's happening in me and around me. I've developed so much since I began, and I know every day I'm here I am growing and learning something that makes a difference, whether it is in my life or others. Not to mention having fun and getting to dive every other day!

Through my short time in the program, I've come to realize just how badly our ocean is suffering. We have failed and neglected to take care of one of the most vital contributions to our existence.
I don't believe we have started to comprehend how much the ocean and its creatures provide for us. The ocean gives and gives, and we only take. It's time we start to give back.
We all say we love the ocean, but we need to protect it too. We need to protect what we love.
Like most people, I felt the urge to help but never knew where to start. With the conservation projects we take part in, not only have I been given a chance to help start the healing of the damage done to our ocean, but also to be educated on marine life; an opportunity not many are presented with.
